REHOBOTH BEACH – The region was treated to a wonderful evening of classical music on Sept. 28, with proceeds from the event benefiting local and national charities.
The music at St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church began with the prelude of Jules Massenet’s opera “Thais,” performed by Gregory Langer of Lewes, who is an accomplished violinist and graduate of many world-renowned conservatories and universities.
Noted mezzo-soprano Andrea Arena and renowned tenor Dante Fiore sang arias by Cardillo, Menotti, Bizet, Leoncavallo, Verdi, Puccini, and St. Saens, as well as modern selections by Foster & Sager and Sartori & Quarantotto. The vocalists were accompanied by the accomplished Matthew Jewell on the piano.
A “meet the artists” reception was held afterward in the Parish Hall, catered by chef John DiLeo.
The evening’s proceeds will be donated to the UNICO National Fund for Cancer Research and Prevention, and local nonprofits such as “Mattinata Musicale,” the Italian Language Summer Camp, and Piazza di Giustina’s food pantries and shelters.
The event was sponsored by UNICO Delaware, the Delaware Commission on Italian Heritage and Culture, Berkshire Hathaway Home Services – Gallo Realty,
and Nicola Pizza. IAH
