REHOBOTH BEACH — The annual Lasagna Dinner on May 4 helped to sustain UNICO Delaware’s continued support of charities with donations for scholarships to the Italian Language Summer Camp for Children and national scholarships for students to study Italian in the United State and in Italy. The lasagna dinner was attended by clergy from St. Edmond Parish, whose support is crucial to all local programs, and members of the
Delaware Commission on Italian Heritage and Culture, as well as local politicians.
On May 18, St. Edmond Parish Education Center was the site of a “stellar” program aimed at raising funds for the Thalassemia Foundation – Cooley’s Anemia Fund. UNICO National has been a strong supporter and partner, confronting the challenges of living with Thalassemia, and the medical research projects since 1975. The local chapters have sponsored an Awareness Symposium and Walk-a-thon in Rehoboth Beach since 2016, each year raising a substantial amount with donations from members and friends for research projects dedicated to advancing treatment and finding a cure.
The 2019 event raised $1,500.
A bocce tournament, sponsored by the Delmarva Chapter of UNICO, was held on June 15 at Dog Fish Head Brewery in Milton, in support of the Brian Piccolo Award program held each November for local high-school athletes. IAH
