The UNICO Chapters of Delaware District 1 sponsored a “St. Joseph’s Table” to celebrate La Festa di San Giuseppe, a centuries old-tradition to help the poor and downtrodden.

A weekend-long collection of non-perishable food items was held in March at Saint Edmond Church in Rehoboth Beach, topped off by baskets of bread donated by Old World Breads in Lewes and Nicola Pizza, Rehoboth. The donations (which amounted to over 50 boxes) were then “blessed” on Sunday morning before being distributed to Casa San Francisco of Milton, Gardenia House in Georgetown and the Cape Henlopen Food Basket and the Community Resource Center, both in Rehoboth Beach.

UNICO members and friends also conducted a zeppole (the traditional Italian pastry for St. Joseph’s Day) and Italian Baked Goods Sale in the Church Hall after the 9 and 10:30 a.m. Masses. Proceeds ($520) were donated to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
